About

Established in 2010, this blog seeks to deterritorialise preconceived ideas about what animation is. For me, animation is the most vital and exciting art form of the 21st century: an intermedial melting-pot of many histories, approaches, disciplines and styles; a place where profound questions are raised about truth and illusion, life and death.

Expanded Animation presents some of the things I talk to my BA, MA and PhD animation students about while I have been at the University for the Creative Arts, Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London.

Examples of my own post-animation practice can be seen on my website www.birgittahosea.co.uk.

As an extension of my activities as an artist, researcher and curator, I am now the Director of the Animation Research Centre, UCA Farnham: https://www.uca.ac.uk/research/arc
